About SBN-Far Detector

The goal of the Short Baseline Neutrino program is to explore the neutrino oscillations. In particular, SBN is interested in exploring the possibility of a fourth neutrino, an anomaly indicated first by LSND (LANL) and later inconclusive hints were observed with the MiniBooNE (FNAL) detector. SBN will use a trio of detectors positioned along the Fermilab's Booster Neutrino Beam (BNB) making them the only program that uses a particle accelerator to produce neutrinos and multiple detectors to search for them. At a distance of 600 meters from the neutrino production target, (a.k.a. Far Detector), a new building will be the new home for the ICARUS Experiment. ICARUS is an existing experiment that took data at the INFN laboratory. The detector is current being refurbished at CERN and will be moved to Fermilab in 2017.
